3 Technical Issues That You Can Easily Solve

3 Technical Issues and How to Fix Them Like a Pro 😎

Virtualization has revolutionized the IT landscape, making everything from remote work to server management smoother. But let’s be real—where there’s technology, there are technical issues! IT teams spend their days fixing problems that users somehow magically create. Ever heard,

“I didn’t change anything! It just stopped working!”? Yeah, us too. 😂

A recent Megatech report listed the ten most common user complaints, including VPN failures, access credential mishaps, and email synchronization nightmares. Let’s break down three of these technical issues and how you, the IT superhero, can solve them like a boss. 🚀

1. VPN Issues in Remote Work 🌍🔗

The Problem:

Remote work means employees relying on VPNs for secure access. However, users often report that their VPN “isn’t working”—which can mean literally anything. Issues can stem from misconfigurations, expired credentials, 2FA failures, or conflicts with firewalls.

Solution:

  • Ensure the VPN client is installed and updated. (Seriously, ask them twice.)
  • Verify login credentials—yes, that means checking caps lock first! 🤦‍♂️
  • Confirm that 2FA codes are entered correctly. (“But I did enter it!” No, you didn’t.)
  • Check firewall and antivirus settings—they may be blocking the connection.
  • Restart the VPN service and reconnect.
  • If the issue persists, try resetting network settings:
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    ipconfig /flushdns

If nothing works, it’s time to call IT support… oh wait, we are IT support. 😅

2. Access Credential technical Issues 🔑

The Problem:

Users forget their passwords faster than they remember their coffee orders. Account lockouts, expired passwords, and forgotten credentials are daily struggles. 🙃

Solution:

  • To reset Windows credentials:
    1. Open Control Panel.
    2. Navigate to Credential Manager.
    3. Select Windows Credentials or Web Credentials.
    4. Find the problematic account and click Remove or Edit.
  • If locked out, use the password recovery option on the login screen.
  • IT admins can reset passwords via Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC).
  • Enable self-service password recovery via email or mobile to reduce unnecessary tickets. (Save yourself the headache, trust us!)

💡 Pro Tip: Tell users to use a password manager. But let’s be honest, they won’t. 🤷

3. Email Synchronization technical Issues in Outlook 📧🚫

The Problem:

“I haven’t received any emails all day!” checks Outlook—it’s stuck in synchronizing hell. Poor internet, security software interference, or corrupted Outlook data files could be the culprits.

Solution:

  • Ensure a stable internet connection (“Yes, Wi-Fi actually needs to be on!”).
  • Temporarily disable security software to see if it’s interfering.
  • Delete and re-add the email account:
    1. Go to Start > Mail > Account Management.
    2. Remove the problematic email account.
    3. Re-add it and verify if it syncs properly.
  • Understand how emails are stored:
    • POP accounts store data in .pst files.
    • IMAP, Exchange, Outlook 365 accounts store data in .ost files.
  • If the .pst file is corrupted:
    1. Locate it on the system.
    2. Run SCANPST.EXE (Inbox Repair Tool).
    3. Click Browse, select the corrupted file, and hit Repair.
  • Follow Microsoft’s official support guides for further troubleshooting.

Wrapping Up 🎬

Technical issues are inevitable, but with these solutions, you’ll be able to troubleshoot VPN failures, access credential mishaps, and Outlook sync problems like a pro. Remember, IT support is not just about fixing technical issues—it’s about reminding users that turning it off and on again is still the most powerful solution. 😂🔥

3 Common Technical Issues Belgian SMEs Can Solve Today

Not every IT problem requires a massive project or budget. Some of the most damaging technical issues plaguing Belgian SMEs have practical, affordable solutions that any organization can implement within weeks. The challenge is knowing where to look. Here are three pervasive problems — and exactly how to fix them.

Issue 1: Email Deliverability Problems — Your Messages Going to Spam

If your business emails are landing in customers’ spam folders, you’re losing deals without knowing it. The culprit is almost always misconfigured email authentication records. The fix requires three DNS records that most Belgian SMEs are missing:

SPF (Sender Policy Framework): Tells receiving mail servers which IP addresses are authorized to send email for your domain. A correct Microsoft 365 SPF record looks like: v=spf1 include:spf.protection.outlook.com -all

DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail): Adds a cryptographic signature to every outgoing email, proving it wasn’t tampered with in transit. Enable it in your Microsoft 365 admin center under Email Authentication.

DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication): Tells receiving servers what to do with emails that fail SPF/DKIM, and sends you aggregate reports on email abuse. Start with v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:dmarc@yourdomain.be and progressively tighten to p=quarantine then p=reject. Implementing all three improves email deliverability by 40% and reduces your domain’s exposure to spoofing attacks.

Issue 2: Uncontrolled Growth of Local Administrator Accounts

In many Belgian SMEs, every laptop has a local administrator account — often with the same password across all devices. When that password leaks (and it will), attackers gain immediate admin access to every machine in the company. The solution is Microsoft LAPS (Local Administrator Password Solution), now built into Windows and free with any Microsoft 365 Business license.

LAPS automatically generates a unique, complex password for the local admin account on each device, stores it encrypted in Active Directory, and rotates it regularly. Deployment takes less than 2 hours via Group Policy or Intune for an organization of any size. The result: a compromised laptop gives an attacker access to exactly one device — not the entire fleet.

Issue 3: Unmonitored SSL Certificate Expiry

An expired SSL certificate takes your website offline and destroys customer trust instantly. It’s also completely preventable. Yet AJA Consulting encounters this issue in 1 out of 3 SME audits. The typical cause: certificates were set up manually years ago, the person who managed them left, and no monitoring was in place.

The fix has two parts: First, use free tools like SSL Labs or Certify the Web to audit all your domains and document expiry dates. Second, implement automated renewal — Let’s Encrypt with Certbot for web servers, or automated certificate management in Azure/AWS — combined with monitoring alerts 60, 30, and 7 days before expiry. Set up calendar reminders and assign a named owner. This 3-hour investment eliminates a risk that can cost your company thousands in emergency remediation and reputational damage.

Quick Wins, Lasting Impact

These three fixes represent the kind of proactive IT management that separates well-run companies from reactive ones. Each can be implemented in under a day, costs near zero in licensing, and delivers measurable security and operational improvements immediately.

AJA Consulting can audit your current configuration and implement all three fixes in a single half-day engagement. Book your quick-win IT session and leave with a more secure, more reliable IT environment.
